This mixture contains lemongrass water, rose geranium water, lavender, eucalyptus lemon, peppermint, cedarwood atlas essential oil.
Lemongrass with its pleasing aroma and overall effectiveness, has become one of the most popular of all natural insect repellents. Lemongrass, which is closely related to citronella, repels a greater variety of pests than most natural "one-scented" mixtures.
Rose geranium repels many bugs, and is also known to be an extremely potent tick repellent, according to the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Rose geranium is a perennial shrub with small pink flowers and pointy leaves that is native to South Africa.
Lemon Eucalyptus - essential oil is derived from a lemon scented blue gum eucalypti plant, a tall tree with smooth bark. Native to northern Australia, the oil is known for its refreshing aroma that helps create an invigorating environment. Lemon Eucalyptus oil is high in cleansing citronellal and citronellol, making this essential oil ideal for surface and skin cleansing. In addition to its topical cleansing benefits, Lemon Eucalyptus can be used to clear and refresh the air.
Peppermint - We may love the smell of peppermint, but bugs really, really don’t. Mosquitoes, flies, spiders, fleas, and ticks all try to steer clear of this pungent plant. In its concentrated form, peppermint is often used as an insect repellent, and its essential oil has been shown to keep away the adults and kill the larvae of several species. As well as your own personal bug guard, peppermint comes in handy in the garden. By incorporating peppermint into your garden, you’ll naturally manage aphids, cabbage loopers, flea beetles, cabbage worms, and squash bugs.
Lavender is well-known for its calming abilities, but did you know it also works well for repelling mosquitoes, moths, and flies? Although rubbing lavender oil on your skin is your best bet for repelling bugs. Lavender can act as a protector for other plants that lack natural abilities to ward off unwanted insects. While birds and bees feed freely from lavender, nearly all other bugs avoid its essential oil.
Cedarwood - Most bugs are extremely sensitive to moisture loss, which is bad news for bugs that come into contact with cedarwood oil. Cedarwood oil is extremely effective at leaching moisture from insects and other bugs, leaving them dried out and eventually dead. In adult insects, arachnids and other bugs, cedarwood oil helps dissolve their exoskeleton. This allows the essential oil to penetrate their shell, hastening the oil's pest control effects.
